Like most Singaporeans, one of my hobbies is to complain about Singapore - the weather, its small size etc. When I was in Thailand, I suddenly felt extremely proud to be a Singaporean.
People seemed to look at Singaporeans as a 'WOW' group of people. After we performed 'Heal the World' during the Opening Ceremony, one guy praised us for our performance exclaiming, " Wow, you Singaporeans are good ".
This good feeling of myself was however not present during the start of the conference.
Press the button, your mike lights up and the whole room stares at you.
I had never felt so nervous and anxious over pressing a button before. I had to write down my questions, restructure them in the most presentable way and to build up the courage before pressing the small plastic button.
I managed to press the button at least once and I was really glad for that. It was a scary but good experience.
I used to work with the same group of people for school projects. I thus tended to be surrounded by people of my age and mentality. Working together with the other youths was however a totally different experience. Each of us had our own working style and attitude and it was sometimes quite difficult to work together. But as the days passed, we learnt to compromise, understand and listen out for different views.
in case you guys don't know who is this person, oh well she is our dearest ah ma!
